Shakey Pete's Bio

Born in Los Angeles, CA, Shakey Pete grew up around musicians in L.A. His father Red Baldwin was the road manager for the Coasters in 1958-59, promotion man for Atlantic Records in 1961-63. Jobete Music 1968. "I had plenty of promo copies of blues records to listen to."

Pete studied guitar with Irving Ashby of the Nat Cole Trio as a young boy."Ash was the best as a teacher, always filled my head with more than just notes on a page." He showed me what a good friend music could be."

Pete also taught guitar at Wilson's Music in Carson 1985-90.
"When my students would miss I'd just practice"

He started singing and playing professionally in 1990.
"After watching the Automatics, The Locomotives at the Starboard, and Whiteboy James at the Blue Cafe. that's all I wanted to do. Doug MacLeod was big for me, a good friend through the years, a mentor." All the early influences; John Lee Hooker, Charley Musselwhite, Paul Butterfield with plenty of Wes Montgomery and Mose Allison.

Now Shakey Pete is back out there playin' and singin' Boogie Woogie style. Recently influenced by Whiteboy James and guitarists Scott Abeyta and Anthony Contreras he's off and runnin'.
